Marcus DeLoach, baritone,
Baritone Marcus DeLoach has been hailed by Anthony Tommasini of The New York
Times as "a fine baritone who puts words across with clarity and
naturalness."
Since 2000, Mr. DeLoach has been a principal artist of New York City
Opera singing the roles of Don Alvaro in Il Viaggio a Reims, Satyr and
Citheron in Platée, Slim in Of Mice and Men, Count Almaviva in
Le Nozze di Figaro, Schaunard in La Bohème, and Son in Lilith.
Additionally, he has gained recent critical acclaim for his operatic
performances of Schaunard in La Bohème with Seattle Opera,
Papageno in Die Zauberfl=F6te with the Kalamazoo Symphony, the
Narrator in Paul Bunyan at Central City Opera, and as Harlekin i n
Ariadne auf Naxos at Des Moines Metro Opera. In 2007, Mr. DeLoach
debuted in the role of Ein Knecht in Sancta Susanna with Ricardo Muti
and the New York Philharmonic and, in 2004, Ping in Turandot for his
Hollywood Bowl Orchestra debut with an all-star cast conducted by John
Mauceri. In 2007, he makes his debut at Opera Ireland in the title
role of Joseph DeRocher in Jake Heggie's Dead Man Walking.
In concert Mr. DeLoach has appeared numerous times with the Chamber
Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Marilyn Horne Foundation and has
performed a solo recital in London's Wigmore Hall. He has also toured
with the rock band Trans-Siberian Orchestra in a tour with
performances in Madison Square Garden and the Fleet Center, among
others.
Mr. DeLoach recently premiered his first opera libretto The Train Ride
set to music by composer Jeff Grace at The American Opera Projects and
holds both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard
School.
