FERNANDO BRANDÃO

Fernando Brandão is a flutist, composer, and arranger of classical, jazz and ethnic music from Rio de Janeiro. He has performed extensively as a chamber musician and soloist in his native Brazil. In this country he has appeared frequently as a guest artist in Jordan Hall, Pickman Hall, and throughout Boston. As a Jazz/Brazilian music performer, he has performed locally at the Regattabar, Scullers, Ryles, Berklee Performance Center and at many jazz festivals. His composition for three guitars "Procissão" was premiered on WGBH-FM's Classical Performances by the New World Guitar Trio. Mr. Brandão has performed locally with Pro-Arte Chamber Orchestra, and recorded Bach's St. John Passion with Emmanuel Music.

Mr. Brandão leads the Fernando Brandão Quartet and the Bohemia Carioca band. He is a member of the group Sergio Brandão and Manga-Rosa, and also Bambule, which features Latin folk and contemporary music. He was the music director and arranger for the Brazilian folk and contemporary group, Brasileirinho, for six years. Brasileirinho presented the show 'A Century of Brazilian Music' in many public and private schools.

Mr. Brandão is a faculty member of Berklee College, the Community Music Center of Boston, Longy School of Music and King Philip Regional High School. A graduate of Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, the New England Conservatory, and Longy School of Music (Artist Diploma), he is a prize winner of competitions in Brazil and the 1991 Pappoutsakis Flute Competition in Boston.
